Billie was born in Saint Cloud, Minnesota, on November 19th, 1936, to George and Irene (Wruck) Sandy. In her early life, she was raised with eight brothers and sisters, while living on a small farm in Collegeville, near St. Joseph, MN. In 1945, at age eight, Billie and her family moved to Long Prairie. She attended a rural country school near the family farm before going on and graduating from Long Prairie High School. Billie was a pillar of love and caring in the Sandy family, always thinking about and looking after her siblings, especially those younger.
Billie met the love of her life, Duane, at the Knotty Pine Ballroom, where they discovered a shared passion for dancing and polka. They were married on November 20th, 1957. Together, they purchased a farm southwest of Browerville, later building their home near Horseshoe Lake, where they built a life filled with hard work, laughter, and family.
For 32 years, Billie worked at the Clarissa Nursing Home, where her strength, compassion, and determination touched many lives. She enjoyed card club, yard maintenance, keeping a tidy home, watching Everybody Loves Raymond, and enjoying a cold Mountain Dew.
Billie will be remembered as beautiful, strong‑willed, endlessly determined, and stubborn in all the right ways. To those who knew her best, her trademark “Whatever” will forever echo with love and humor.
Billie is survived by her children: Terry (Rich) Parker of Long Prairie, Tim Spychalla of Browerville, Todd (CJ) Spychalla of Kansas City, MO, Lance (Sue) Spychalla of Osakis, and Jacqueline (James) Chyba of Browerville. She leaves behind a lasting legacy through her 11 grandchildren: Jessica, Sarah, Matthew, Jordan, Tyler, Ioah, Chanda, Zachary, Taylor, Lexi, and Austin; and her 14 great-grandchildren: Quinn, Gracelyn, Gavin, Ethan, Mylie, Bo, Finley, Huck, Carson, Aurora, Scarlett, Oliver, Graham, and Oaklynn. She is also survived by her siblings: Delano (Agnes) Sandy, John (Rita) Sandy, Myrn (Shorty) Hillmer, and Coris Langbehn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Spychalla; parents, George and Irene Sandy; and her siblings: George Sandy Jr., Wheltha Hufford, Virgil Sandy, Katherine Connor, Milesine Seppelt, and Patrick Sandy, and infants Danaine, Miles, twin boys; and her grandson Cassidy Spychalla.
