Wayne Michael Nimmo

Wayne Nimmo, of rural Sauk Centre, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021. 

A funeral service will take place on Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville, Minnesota at 10:00 AM. Visitation will take place one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at the Bear head Cemetery in Rural Swanville, MN.

Wayne Michael was one of two sons born to Rolland and Helen (Harris) Nimmo of Orange County, California.  When Wayne was a child, they moved their family to Little Falls, Minnesota. Wayne graduated from Little Falls High School and then started working at a café as a cook. Culinary became a passion of his, working at a few different restaurants before purchasing his own restaurant the ”Little Sauk Café.” He later sold this café after purchasing the Main Street Café in Sauk Centre. He would own this café until his retirement.  

While out horseback riding with friends, Wayne met Sandy Zitur. The two’s path crossed again later, and they started dating. On September 11, 1976, the two were united in marriage. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Tamie and Justin. The young couple worked side by side when Sandy was not working as a nurse.  Wayne worked many long hours at the café to provide for his family.  He had a tremendous work ethic which he passed to his children.  When he did have some time off, he would sneak in some time fishing on an area lake, snowmobiling, riding the   4-wheeler and an occasional casino trip.  He was competitive at heart and loved to win at dice against his mom. A great joy for him we’re his grandchildren. After retirement, Wayne then worked on enjoying every moment with them. He had a certain knack to help soothe their fussing and bringing a smile to their face.    

On Friday, December 3, 2021, Wayne passed away at home. He was 67 years old. He was preceded in death by his father, Rolland Nimmo. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandy; daughter, Tamie (Jon) Barber and their children, Ashley and Erich; son, Justin (Eve) Nimmo and their children, Jacob and Ryker; mother, Helen Jenkins.
