Susan Leann Gimbel was born on July 31, 1946, the daughter of Basel and Lillian (Hanson) Evans of Pipestone, Minnesota. Susan graduated from Pipestone High School in 1964. Her family then moved to Eagle Bend. It was in Eagle Bend that Susan met Dale Gimbel. The two were quite smitten and united in marriage on October 12, 1968, at the catholic church in Parkers Prairie. Their union was blessed with three children, Jody, Chad, and Brian while they lived in Bertha, MN. The couple moved to rural Browerville in 1975, where they raised their young family on a hobby farm. Susan worked at Banta Corporation in Long Prairie for several years where she met numerous friends.
When Susan was not busy helping Dale on the farm or chasing the kids, she enjoyed spending time with her horses and was often seen at horse shows. This love for horses started as a child and grew with her until her health and age made her stop as an adult. Susan was the mom and wife, who always ensured people never left her house with an empty stomach. She enjoyed time together making memories with family and friends, especially on the Gimbel family vacations. Her sense of humor made people laugh and she loved to give a good teasing. Daily coffee gatherings with friends started her days. Her and Dale’s home was always the host of the yearly deer camp, she truly enjoyed listening to the stories of their hunts and providing a warm place for them to rest and fill their stomachs. She was an avid collector of Precious Moments, making sure when her and Dale made their trips to Branson that they stopped to add just one more to the collection. Susan’s love for children never wavered. She was naturally drawn to them, giving love and hugs. Her grandchildren brought smiles and memories to her face. Her memorable giggle and smile will be missed by her family and friends.
Susan left us here on earth on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the St. Cloud Hospital. She was 77 years old.
