Roy A. Motzko Obituary
Roy Anthony Motzko, a 90-year-old of Browerville, passed away in Long Prairie on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Browerville. A visitation will take place that day, starting at 10:00 AM. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM. Burial will immediately follow the service at the church cemetery.
Roy Anthony Motzko was born to Stanley and Mary (Clasemann) Motzko on June 17, 1935 and was the eighth of nine children. Roy was raised on the family farm south of Browerville and graduated in 1953 from Browerville High School. Roy joined the Air Force in 1953 and was trained in electronics. He was stationed in the small town of Encampment Wyoming, where he met Dorothy Sutton. They eloped to Coue D’Alene Idaho in 1955. While Roy was still in the Air Force, Dorothy took instruction to become Catholic, and their marriage was blest in the Catholic Church in Salina Kansa.
With Roy’s electronic training, he was hired by UNIVAC and fixed computers in his entire 40 years working career at UNIVAC’s factory computer complex and traveled throughout the
country fixing computers. Roy and Dorothy spent most of their life on a 15-acre home site near Forest Lake. During his spare time in the evenings and weekends, Roy built their house, garage and 30x56 foot pole barn. He was most proud of his ingenuity to do most of the work himself, including his homemade tool of a 3-foot clear plastic garden hose do all the leveling of the pole barn. To have the rafter’s level, he had Dorothy on a ladder at one corner post to tell him when the water was at the mark he made and took the other end of the hose and marked each post when Dorothy told him the water was at the mark! His neighbor, skeptical of Roy’s invention, checked all the leveling work with his leveling equipment and was amazed at the perfect accuracy. Roy thoroughly enjoyed his carpentry and electrical wiring work he done on their house and did all the finishing work himself.
Roy and Dorothy were members of St. Peter’s Church in Forest Lake where they both sang in the choir. After retirement, they moved to Browerville and became members of Christ the King Church, and both sang in the Unity Choir. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, son Steven, brothers Giles, Norbert, James, and sisters Edna Hengemuhl, Octiva Shimota, Beatrice Biermaier and Jeanette Scott. He is survived by his Children Diane and Renee, sister Inez, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
