Rose Ann “Rosie” Zigan came into this world on July 18, 1934, the daughter of William and Rose (Lucas) Zigan of Browerville. She was the fifth of six children.

She graduated from Browerville High School and then ventured to Minneapolis, working in manufacturing during the Korean War. She moved back to Browerville a few years later and began working at the Land O’ Lakes plant in town. She also drove school bus for the company owned by her brother, Bill.

Soon after, she began bartending first for the municipal liquor store and then managing the local VFW for a few years. Tending bar and driving bus kept her busy for more than 50 years.

Whether it was driving bus or serving drinks, people listened to Rosie. Everyone in town knew her, and she left a lasting impression. Her bus route days were filled with little ones who later grew into her customers downtown.

One of her greatest joys was her daughter, Roxanne. Rosie worked hard to provide a comfortable life for the two of them. In 1972, she built the home she would have the rest of her life. Roxanne later married Scott Determan, and they built a house across the street. Before long, a well-worn path formed between the houses as her three grandkids traveled back and forth.

Each child has special memories of time spent with Grandma including sleepovers, big Sunday dinners, playing cards, and picking mushrooms. She loved taking her grandkids fishing especially off the docks of her many friends.

Some of her favorite times were spent traveling with her family. Visiting her sister Margie in Montana and traveling with them to Glacier and Yellowstone Parks was something she loved. At age 85 she saw the ocean for the first time and took in all the fun at Disneyworld.

As the family grew older, they all shared fond memories of watching football or baseball and having a beer with Grandma. She enjoyed countless laughs and cherished memories with family and friends.

Rosie was fiercely independent and strong-willed. These traits helped her remain with us here on earth for nearly 92 blessed years.

On Monday, April 20, 2026, Rosie took her last breath at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa. She leaves behind her daughter, Roxanne (Scott) Determan; grandchildren Angie (Jeremy) Johnson, David (Kristen) Determan and Daniel (Mackenzie) Determan; great-grandchildren Brayden, Noah and Tate Johnson, Lexi and Blake Determan and Gus Determan; many nieces, nephews and friends she met along the way.  She was preceded in death by her parents William and Rose Zigan; siblings Loretta (John) Franz, Bill (Beverly) Zigan, Jim (Doris) Zigan, Alice (Lawrence) Wiersgalla, and Margie (Bill) Thomas.
