Robert Salber, 90-year-old of Browerville, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Valley View Assisted Living in Long Prairie.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, November 21, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church in Randall at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the church from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will continue the day of the mass one hour prior, also at the church. Burial will take place later that day at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Robert John Salber was born June 22, 1935, to George and Anna (Schmitt) Salber in rural Petersburg, Nebraska. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army proudly serving his country. While he was enlisted, he was trained as a medic. He eventually returned home to Nebraska to help take over the farm. On August 18, 1958, Robert married Rita Wagner in Ellsworth, Minnesota. In 1968 they moved to Browerville, Minnesota where they raised their four children on their dairy farm and enjoyed many purposeful years. In 1989 they retired from farming and moved to Little Falls, Minnesota where Robert took a job working in metal fabrication and then worked for the Little Falls school district doing maintenance. In 1998 Rita passed away. Robert continued working and living in Little Falls.
Robert was lucky to find love again with Delores Gaffke, and on October 11, 2013, they were united in marriage and made their home in Randall, Minnesota. The couple lived a simple life enjoying each other ‘s company and families, playing cards and bingo with friends, and attending St James Catholic Church. In April 2022 Delores passed away. Robert then moved to their lake cabin with his son, and he spent his remaining years on earth fishing, spending time with family and tinkering on projects to keep him busy.
On Thursday, November 14, 2025, Robert passed away at the age of 90. He leaves behind his four children, Kenny Salber, Tim (Sue) Salber, Shirley Salber, and Karen (Bryan) Cator; grandchildren, Shannon Salber, Amanda (Brenton) Pahl, Juliann Salber, Michele (Stephen) Doyle, Kelsey (Konrad) Abramo, and Miranda Zilka; great grandchildren, Violet, Ty, Jace, Luca, Liam, Josephine, Aftyn, Anthony, Archie, Anders and Allie; sister-in-law Francie Salber, and many nieces, nephews and friends that he met along the way. Robert was preceded in death by his wives, Rita and Delores; his parents; brothers Leonard, Raymond, Clarence, Joe, Willie and Jerome; and sisters: Celestine Salber, Sister Anella Salber OSB, Lucille Lordemann, and Sister Agnes Salber OSB.
Robert was a caring, kind, and hard-working individual who continued to strive to be the best person he could be, and to pass these characteristics onto his children. His memory will live on.
