Richard "Rick" Michael Sadlemyer Obituary

Rick Sadlemyer 80 year old of rural Long Prairie, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Browerville. Visitation will take place on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Iten Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and will continue the day of the memorial service one hour prior at the church. Burial will immediately follow the service at the Evergreen Cemetery in Browerville. Arrangements are with the Iten Funeral Home of Browerville.

Richard “Rick” Sadlemyer was born on January 29, 1945, to Louis and Rosalie (Doese) Sadlemyer in Long Prairie, Minnesota. The only boy among four children.

Rick attended grades one through six at District No.15 country school in Gutches Grove. He graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1963 and went on to study Auto Mechanics at Wadena Technical College, graduating in 1965.

It was through a mutual friend that Rick met Carol Simonson. The two were united in marriage on a hot August 21, 1981, at Zion Lutheran Church in Browerville. Together, they raised two children, Leslie and Jason, on the Sadlemyer family farm, a legacy Rick would one day pass on to his son.

Except for his time in college, Rick spent his entire life on the farm, faithfully maintaining and growing the land passed down from his father. Alongside raising cattle and crops, he worked as a livestock dealer, spending countless hours at sales barns. He found joy and camaraderie in his work, cherishing the friendships formed with fellow farmers who shared his drive and dedication.

At the end of a long day, Rick could often be found unwinding with an old western on the television. He loved music deeply and would sometimes break into song, not always to the delight of others, but always with heart. Known for his good humor, teasing spirit, and unwavering determination, Rick faced life’s challenges with resilience, helping his family weather the ups and downs of farm life.

On Father’s Day, June 15, 2025, Rick passed away at home with his wife sitting beside him and his family around him, peacefully at the age of 80, going home to his Lord and Savior. He leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Carol; his children, Leslie (Forrest) Russell, and Jason (Lacei) Sadlemyer; the people he would do anything for, his grandchildren, Chrisob (Anna) Sadlemyer, Ellie Russell, Zachariah Sadlemyer, and William Russell. He also leaves behind his sister, LuRae Christensen; brothers-in-laws, Grant Whissemore and William Simonson; and many nieces and nephews. Rick also carries with him to heaven a secret he treasured, the gender and names chosen for his first great-grandchild, expected this fall.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Rosalie Sadlemyer; his sisters, Susan Colby and Fae Whissemore; brothers-in-law Wayne Christensen and Dr. Richard Simonson; and his parents-in-law, Leslie and Hazel Simonson.

Rick will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of the land, and his unshakable spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, humor, and heart.
