Rena Halbersma was born on the family farm near Inwood, Iowa on September 11, 1929 to Jorienus and Artie (Brands) Brouwer. She attended the Inwood Public School until 1942 when the family moved to Rock Valley, Iowa. She finished 7th & 8th grades in a rural country school and later in life completed her GED. In 1946 the family moved to a farm near Edgerton, Minnesota.
Rena was united in marriage to Raymond Halbersma on January 13, 1949. They lived in Hatfield and Slayton and in 1952 moved to a farm they purchased north of Browerville. They farmed for 45 years. In 1997 they moved into Clarissa.
Rena’s first love was for Jesus, whom she trusted as her Lord and Savior on July 27, 1952. She remained faithful to her Christian calling as a faithful, loving, and caring wife and mother. She had the gift of hospitality, teaching the Bible and sewing. She enjoyed her friends, housekeeping, and outdoor life.
Rena was very thankful to God for healing her of cancer in 1973, giving her the privilege of sharing her life with her husband and mothering her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
