On June 28, 2026 Orville Christopher Meyer, 89, was welcomed into heaven. He was born on the family farm in Meire Grove on September 22, 1936 to Joe and Pauline Meyer, the third of six children.

Orville graduated in 1954 from Melrose High School, then worked on the family farm while pursuing a career as a Minnesota DNR Game Warden, a job he loved for thirty years. In 1961 he was first stationed as a field officer in Staples and later in Brainerd and the Twin Cities as a Regional Supervisor.

On September 30, 1961, Orville married Marjorie Kraemer.  They first met on the farm when his sister, Janice, invited Marge to help bale hay.  Together, they raised five children in Staples: Karen, Dan, Cindy, Joe and Amy.

In addition to his career with the DNR, Orv spent his time as a volunteer Staples firefighter, a trustee of Sacred Heart Church, and a member of the Staples Lion Club.  After retirement from the DNR, he was elected as Wadena County Commissioner, where he served for 16 years.

Orville was preceded in death by parents, Joe and Pauline (Welle) Meyer; sister, Delores Macey; brother, Vern Meyer; infant sister, Viola and grandson, Christopher Miller. His surviving immediate family includes wife, Marge, and their children: Karen (Tim) Rose, Daniel (Sue) Meyer, Cynthia (Mike) Miller, Joseph (Michele) Meyer and Amy (Bryan) Winkels.  He also leaves 11 grandchildren and 6 ½ great-grandchildren; sisters, Janice Eiden and Marie Meyer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Orv was an avid lover, protector and teacher of all things outdoors.  He will be deeply missed as a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, “Opa” and friend to many.
