Orla Marlene was born to Morton and Vera Scott in Mountain Lake, MN on July 8, 1937. She grew up on a farm outside of Clarissa and attended school in town where she graduated as Homecoming Queen for the Class of 1955. In 1956, she met the love of her life, Eugene Watts, while working at the Clarissa Drug Store. They were married on February 16, 1957, at the United Methodist Church and settled in Clarissa after Gene finished printing school in Minneapolis. There they raised 4 children and ran the newspaper business, The Clarissa Independent, for many years. Orla was also employed by Central Todd County Care Center for 30 years. She was very proud of her dedicated work and friends she met over the years. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for several years.
Orla enjoyed all the time she and Gene spent at their cabin they had owned on Battle Lake. She also liked to cook and try out new recipes for her family, but she especially loved to bake. Muffins and cookies were her specialties, and she treated many townspeople to trays of cookies and goodies every Christmas season. She liked listening to music of all kinds and socializing with friends, but above all, she relished the times she could be with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be so greatly missed by her family.
Orla was preceded in death by her parents and husband Gene. She is survived by her children: Kim Sobota, Kent (Beth) Watts, Scott Watts, and Darin (Jessica) Watts; grandchildren: Derek (Jenna), Lauren (Case), Haily (Dan), Taylor (Brooke), Connor, Colter (Brittany), Jon ‘Hunter’ (Michelle), Logan and Brianna; great-grandchildren: Madison, Olivia, Harrison, Bennett, Maren, Nora, Emma, Tucker, and Jax. She is also survived by one sister, Kay Scott, and a nephew, Corey Scott.
