Michael Lawrence Spieker, age 65 of Long Prairie, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 11 AM at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie, Minnesota. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church from 4 – 7 PM. A prayer service will take place at 3:45 PM. Visitation will continue the day of the Mass from 10 – 11 AM at the church.

Michael L. “Mike” Spieker of Long Prairie, Minnesota, passed away peacefully after struggling with multiple health issues, as well as a recent diagnosis of cancer.

Mike was born on February 15, 1961, to Gerald and Anna Spieker. He was the ninth child in the family and the youngest of their six sons. He attended St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic School before continuing his education in the Long Prairie Public School and graduating in 1979.

Following graduation, Mike began a career at Hart’s Press, where he dedicated 38 years of service. After the company, later known as RR Donnelley, relocated out of state, he continued his strong work ethic at Douglas Finishing in Alexandria and later at ECP Manufacturing in Long Prairie until his retirement.

Mike found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved country music and looked forward to attending WeFest each year with his brother Dan and many good friends. He was also an avid league bowler for Hart’s Press for many years. Mike cherished spending time at Spider Lake, where he enjoyed camping with family and friends. Whether relaxing around the campfire or heading out for a day of mudding, those weekends were filled with laughter, adventure, and memories he treasured.

A devoted member of his community, Mike, belonged to the Long Prairie Jaycees when the local chapter was active. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1636, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie, where he achieved the rank of Third Degree Knight. Many in the community knew Mike as one of the dedicated volunteers who prepared the famous sausage for the Knights of Columbus pancake breakfasts.

Mike will be remembered as a humble, kind, and quiet man whose love for his family was evident in everything he did. His nieces and nephews especially adored “Uncle Mike”, always wanting to spend time by his side. He had a gentle spirit that naturally drew children and others to him.

One of Mike’s greatest joys was riding his Honda Gold Wing on a beautiful day, enjoying the open road and the freedom it brought to him.

Mike is survived by his siblings, Romaine (Peggy), Roger (Wanda), Dennis (Patty), Daniel, Gerard (Diane), Rosie, and Virginia; brothers-in-law, Phillip Mrozek and Billy Merritt; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Anna Spieker; his siblings, Geraldine Spieker, Darlene Mrozek, and Maureen Merritt; and many extended family members.

Mike's quiet strength, generous heart, and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
