Marlene Zumpe Obituary

Marlene Zumpe passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at her home under the care of hospice.

A funeral service will take place on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Long Prairie Minnesota at 12 NOON. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in her home state of Illinois.

Marlene Elizabeth was born on November 3, 1933, the daughter of Stanley and Elizabeth (Thomas) Tokarz of Mount Olive, Illinois.  She married Albert Zumpe and their union was blessed with eleven children: Susan, Donna, Velda, Roberta, Timothy, Rosie, Amy, Debbie, Donald, Vanessa, and Johnny.

She worked multiple jobs to help support her children, always putting them first.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (Gigi) even if she threatened to beat them with a wet noodle.  Life’s greatest pleasure was spoiling her grandchildren, she would always be smiling, and making memories with them.  When Marlene was not busy spending time with family, she enjoyed sitting and working on crossword puzzles or crocheting and she never turned down a game of bingo. Marlene had a strong faith and belief in the Catholic Church. This faith carried her through life’s defeats and victories. Marlene met her savior on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family and her favorite stuffed unicorn Beethoven. She was 89 years young. She leaves behind her children, Susan (David) Conley, Donna Morris, Velda (Adan) Salazar, Roberta (Harold) Gilpin, Tim Morris, Rosemary Kako, and Amy (Simon) Silva; 32 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents: Stanley and Elizabeth Tokarz; Children: Debbie Zumpe, Donald Zumpe, Vanessa Helen, Johnny  Morris; son-in-law Adan Salazar, and great-grandson Justin Morris; and her favorite fuzzy companion Precious.

You will be so very missed old yeller.
