Lyle Delmer Winter was born June 28, 1938 to Otto & Elizabeth (Zieke) Winter at the family home in Canby, Minnesota. He attended country school and graduated from Canby High School in 1956. Lyle married his high school sweetheart Doris Wahlstrom on September 29, 1956. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Lyle began his farming career in the Canby area. He was a herdsman at Mayo Farms in Rochester and also worked at Hitchcock industries in Bloomington. His love for farming brought their family to Bertha in 1967 where he co-owned Eagle Bend Dairy while continuing to farm. They moved to Browerville in 1975. Lyle sold Legend Seed for many years.
Lyle and Doris enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, wintering in Texas and spending time with family and friends. He loved the family pets throughout the years, especially Jesse and Josie. Lyle was a gentle giant, a man of great humor, a friend to all, and always willing to lend a hand to any who asked. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He made the lives of all his family richer by his presence and influence. Though our hearts are broken we know that he will be with us always. Heaven is richer with his presence. His strong faith has brought him to his heavenly home. Lyle lost his battle against COVID complications on November 23, 2020.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 64 years Doris; children: Sheri (Tom) Papenfuss, Shirley (Bill) Drentlaw, Kathy (Bruce) Glor, Scott (Dee) Winter, Mark (Karla) Winter; grandchildren: Kristi Wanner, Dena (Chris) Perry, Dawn (Matt) Bragstad, Jacob (Silvia) Papenfuss, Michael (Elizabeth) Drentlaw, Courtney (Travis) Quinlan, Kelsey (Mike) Syltie, Eli (Jena) Glor, Hannah Rae Glor, Grace (Will Sullivan) Glor, Rachel (Corey) Winter, Hailey & Lexie Winter, Brittin & Marcus Winter; great grandchildren: Madison & Megan Valley, Kellan, Brennan & Sullivan Quinlan, William & Abigail Syltie, Skylah & Skadi Glor, Malayna & Isabelle Perry; sisters: Louella Schiltz, Darlene Anhalt; sisters-in-law: Ethel Joy Winter, Phylis Lund, and many nieces & nephews as well as many friends.
Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, Otto & Elizabeth, In-Laws, Henry & Norma Wahlstrom, stepfather, Norman Husby; siblings: Shirley, Helmer, Leroy; In-Laws: Kermit Lund, Jean & Robert Wilgohs, Joyce & Larry Hinders, Penny Winter, Bob Schilz and Myron Anhalt.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the Lakewood Hospital in Staples, the VA Hospital in Minneapolis and all the doctors, nurses and other staff for there compassion and care during this difficult time.
