Loren Virgil Koll was born on September 30, 1945, the son of Leo and Gertrude (Tauer) in Morgan, Minnesota. When he was in the fourth grade, Loren’s family moved to Olivia, MN, where he attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and graduated from Olivia High School in 1963. After graduation, Loren worked for several local farmers and joined the Minnesota Army National Guard, serving his country for six years. On June 3rd, 1967, Loren married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Clouse, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia, MN. The couple bought a home in Bird Island, MN, where they raised their four children. Loren owned and operated Loren’s Body Shop in Bird Island for over 25 years. In his spare time, he was an active member of the Bird Island Fire Department, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, and St. Mary’s Catholic School Board. In 1995, Loren and Sharon moved to an 80-acre hobby farm outside of Long Prairie, where they raised elk, horses, and beef cattle. An engaged member of the Long Prairie community, Loren was active in the St. Mary of Mount Carmel parish and as a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also developed a deep and lasting friendship with the local Amish community through his work hauling logs with his skid loader at several Amish sawmills and welding for an Amish machine shop. Loren loved to play cards and belonged to a card club for over 50 years. He also belonged to the Country Cruisers Car Club. An avid outdoorsman, Loren enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with family. Loren is survived by his loving wife Sharon; children, Dan (Colleen), Kevin (Megan), Jeff (Katy) and Melanie (Phil) Kern; grandchildren, Joe Koll, Leah (Kyle) Schneider, Jane Koll, Francis Koll, Tyler Koll, Theresa (Joe) Salonek, Michaela Koll, Jacob Koll, Clare Koll, Ronan Koll, Sam Kern, Colby Kern, Emma Kern, and Bella Kern; great-grandchildren, Felix and Levi Schneider; siblings, Sharon Weyer, Audrey (Walt) White, Quentin (Sylvia) Koll, Mavis (Gary) Lamka, Cindy Koll-Tengwall, Jody (Gerry) Strommer, and Shelly (Gene) Gatewood.
