Lila Claseman passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the Centracare Hospital in Long Prairie. Lila was here on earth for 95 years.

A Christian Burial Mass will take place on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie, Minnesota at 11:00 AM. Visitation will occur at the church on Monday, May 22, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a rosary being prayed at 4:00 PM. Visitation will continue the day of the funeral one hour prior. Burial will immediately follow at the church cemetery.

Both visitations and funeral will take place at the church.

Lila Marie was born on August 24, 1927, in Long Prairie Township, Todd County, Minnesota to Charles and Hermena “Minnie” (Laumeyer) Spieker. She attended St Mary’s Catholic School in Long Prairie through the 8th grade. Lila then stayed home and helped out on her parents’ farm. It was by kismet fate that in 1947, she was paired as bridesmaid and groomsman with Joseph Claseman in her sister’s wedding. The couple started dating and were united in marriage on February 11, 1950. Their union was blessed with 9 children.

When Lila was not busy working beside Joe on the farm, or tending to the kids and home, she volunteered as the head of the church funeral lunch program. Lila worked at the Delight Shop and at the Nursing Home’s “little store”. Lila really cherished the time she got to spend interacting with the residents. At times you could see her serving lunch at the St Mary’s school or pitching in to help clean at the parish house. When she had downtime, Lila loved to work in her gardens, play a quick game of cards or work on quilts with her sisters. This loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend will be deeply missed.

At the age of 95, Lila went to meet her Savior on Thursday, May 18, 2023. She leaves behind her husband of 73 years, Joseph Claseman; children, Lee (Doreen) Claseman, Mary (Tom Letch) Claseman, Gloria (Gordon) Miller, Bryan (Barbara) Claseman, Dorothy (Rob) Briscoe, Deloris (Dan) Peyton and Rose (Ken) Thunder; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren on the way; siblings, Marie Wieland and Roselyn (LuVerne) Stadtherr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Minnie Spieker; sons, Charles and Raymond Claseman; and grandchild, Abigail; siblings, Jeanette Geisenhof, Bernice Hadash, Lorraine Clasemann, Norman, Charles and Frederick Spieker.
