Leona, daughter of Joseph and Marie (Borgert) Brichacek, attended school in Clarissa, graduating in 1949. She went on to attend the University of Minnesota, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Following graduation she joined the Minnetonka Public School system, teaching 2nd grade for 32 years before retiring in 1994. Leona had a lifelong love of birds, especially her parakeet Buzzy, whom she taught to speak and was known to ask “Do you want a Pepsi?" during visits.
While she never found “Mr. Right," she enjoyed many family get-togethers with her brother George and sister Joyce’s families. Leona never lacked love - she received an abundance from all of her nieces, nephews, and her many friends. She enjoyed trips, luncheon dates and casino runs with her friends: Gretchan, Bea, Percy, Rhea, and Serene, just to name a few. Leona also looked forward to her annual shopping outing with three of her nieces: Kerry, Kristi, and Kim. Leona also shared a special bond with her niece Julie, who she spent dedicated time with and who was always there to help whenever needed.
Leona was a member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church in Hopkins, MN. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, her brother-in-law Gary Gaida; and her sister-in-law Bethel Brichacek. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie Brichacek; her brother George Brichacek; sister Joyce Gaida and her nephew, Brad Brichacek.
