Laurel Kowal, 95 year old of Browerville, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 12, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Browerville. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the Mass that day. Burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements for Laurel are with the Iten Funeral Home of Browerville.
Laurel grew up on a small farm North of Browerville, Minnesota. After he graduated from Browerville high school, he then served in the army spending time in occupied Japan. He married his long-distance sweetheart Leona Heirman on April 21, 1951. They moved to Minneapolis where he attended Dunwoody Institute for appliance repair. Then went to work for Sears and Montgomery Wards. They eventually settled in Crystal, Minnesota where they raised their six children.
After retiring, he and Leona would take the R.V. traveling the United States before becoming snowbirds in San Antonio, Texas every winter.
Laurel is survived by his six children, Larry (Sherry), Linda (Paul) Reil, Lyle (Kathy), Les (Patty), Leann Sorenson, and Lisa (Gary). Nine grandchildren, Mathew (Rachel), James (Emily), Christina (Adam) Fiereck, Nate (Betty), Kelly (Brian) Petit, Lacy Sorenson, Luke, Michelle (Ryan) Seiler and Rachel Dykhoff. And 10 great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his lifelong sweetheart and loving wife Leona, his parents, Louis and Ludvina Kowal, and brothers Vern and Dennis. A visitation and interment will be held in the spring in Crystal Minnesota. A special thanks to the Hospice team.
