LaRayne Johnson of Osakis, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Monday, July 10, 2023, at the Galeon in Osakis. LaRayne was 21 days short of turning 100 years old.
A funeral service will be held in her honor on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Osakis Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place at the church on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and continue at the church the morning of the funeral from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow the service at the Nelson Cemetery.
Both visitations and funeral will be at the church.

LaRayne Claire (Robinson) Johnson was born on July 31, 1923, to Leman and Hilma (Nelson) Robinson in Eagle Bend, MN. Her parents farmed near Eagle Bend where she trapped gophers as a child.
LaRayne earned her teaching degree at the Staples Normal School and started teaching one year later in southern Minnesota where the wages were better. A couple years later she returned to the Osakis area where she met Kenny. The couple were united in marriage on June 7, 1947, at Osakis Lutheran Church. Kenneth and LaRayne were blessed with a daughter, Lee Anna.
For a year, she taught elementary school at Staples Normal School near Austin, MN before stepping back to raise her family and help farm until 1960. After that, she went back to teaching while she attended St. Cloud State University for her bachelor’s degree. LaRayne worked at School District 17 from 1960-1969 and then taught at Osakis Public School until 1985. She taught several different elementary grades throughout her career as a teacher and was always very involved in school activities.
LaRayne was an active member of the Osakis Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school. She also took part in the Befrienders Ministry, church council, bible study, quilting group, Community Memorial Home Board, and Memorial Home Auxiliary. LaRayne enjoyed playing cards, dancing, bowling, fishing, going to rummage sales, crafting, and her favorite season was Summer. She loved to travel all over such as, New Zealand, Norway, Alaska, and Nova Scotia. LaRayne had fond memories of fishing for Salmon out west with friends and road tripping to Florida.

Survived by LeeAnna (Harvey) Horton, Granddaughter Kari Horton (Chris Stanley) and Great-Grandson Parker Stanley; siblings, Gordon (Nancy) Robinson, Curtis (Nancy) Robinson, sister-in-law Doris Johnson; several nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by husband Kenneth (2001), sister Jean and brother-in-law Jim Hall; infant twin brothers, and sisters-in-law Melba Robinson and Nancy Robinson.
