Joseph John Iten was born on May 8, 1937, the son of Thomas and Mary (Mishlish) Iten of Browerville. He graduated from Browerville High School and then enlisted in the United States Army. He bravely served our country from May of 1956 to May of 1958. After coming home Joe started working at the family hardware store. He was out with friends one evening and met their little sister, Rosie Biermaier. Over time the two became smitten and were united in marriage on October 20, 1973, at the St. Williams Catholic Church in Fridley. Their union combined their blessings, Daniel, Carol, and Lisa. Not long after little Joey was born. The couple after their marriage lived in the twin Cities area, but eventually moved back home to be close to family and rural living.
When Joe was a child, he found great passion in fishing and hunting. His grandma taught him how to hunt. She was the driving force that took her grandkids out into the woods to learn how to hunt and provide for their family. The memories they made lasted a lifetime. Joe at times could be a little ornery, but deep down inside he had a big heart, a great sense of humor and loved to joke and tease people.
Joe left us here on earth for his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the Diamond Willow Home. Joe was 86 years old. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Rosemary “Rosie” Iten; children, Daniel (Wanda) Feela, Carol (Al Simonson) Schroeder, Lisa Feela and Joey (Stacey) Iten; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by an infant son David; parents, Thomas and Mary Iten; and siblings, Jerry Iten and Hans Iten.
