John George Frerichs

John Frerichs, age 80, of rural long prairie, passed away under the care of hospice at his home on Sunday, June 18, 2023.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the Peace United Church in Long Prairie at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service.

John George Frerichs was born on May 5, 1943, in Asbestos, Quebec, Canada to Herman and Mary (Bauer) Frerichs. Before moving to Minnesota, he was enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. John was married for a period in his life to Joyce Claridge, the marriage later dissolved, but they were blessed with three children, Clare, David and Kathy. He moved to Minnesota in 1984 and later met Carol Woodard. They were married on June 23, 1979, in Kitchener, Ontario. To this union, John became step-dad to William Woodard, and father Jennifer, and John. John worked at Larson Boats as a general laborer. He loved attending auctions, antiquing, socializing, and was known to be wearing a cowboy hat. He was a member of Peace United Church in Long Prairie

and he volunteered at the church until he became hearing impaired.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Clare (Len) Henhawke of Woodstock, Ontario, David (Kathy) Frerichs of Woodstock, Ontario, Kathy (Mike) Stubbert of Darmouth, Nova Scotia, Jennifer Shreves of Park Rapids, MN, John (Nanci) Frerichs of Long Prairie, MN; step-son, William Woodard of Alexandria, MN; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann; and brother, Douglas.
