Janet Reed’s time with us in this life concluded on 2 am, Friday, January 14, 2022 at Saint Cloud Regional Hospital in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Tragically, she suffered a massive stroke the Monday, January 12th and was immediately rushed to Saint Cloud, where a truly incredible team of medical professionals heroically aided her. An acute case of advanced leukemia had overwhelmed her body and sadly, there was no viable path to recovery and her condition worsened over the next few days. Her comfort was assured and she gradually passed on, with her caring and devoted spouse, Dennis, at her side until the end.

Janet Lynn Jasmer was born on April 8, 1962 at the Wesley Hospital in Wadena, MN to Neola (Sjobeck) Jasmer & Willard Jasmer. She was the third of four children (in order: Vicky, Lonnie, Janet, Darlys). They grew up on the Jasmer family farm outside of Bertha, Minnesota. Her childhood on the farm shaped her love of animals; a large part of her life throughout. Music touched her soul; she loved music, singing and dancing. She attended Bertha-Hewitt high school and was a member of the drama club, participating in many theatrical performances. She graduated as valedictorian of the 1980 B-H HS high school academic class; she was smart as a whip and a studious young person. Lovely as she was, she caught the eye of Anthony (Tony) Snyder at the Clarissa Ballroom in their youth. She married Tony on July 5, 1980. They moved to the Snyder farm outside of Wadena, to start their life together. The family welcomed their first child, a daughter, Josie Lynn (1981), then Tara Ann (1982), and finally Timothy Charles (1985) completing their family. Janet also doted on numerous family pets, like Sam the collie (a very good boy), or Sugar Raye and Gumbie, the kitties.

Fiercely proud of her family, the children always came first, ensuring all basic needs were met as well as the vast majority of the extra nice things too. A sterling example of a mother’s grace, care, and devotion, if you were “her’s”, then your reward was a love of unyielding strength and generosity. This love spilled over to her extended family too. She bonded strongly with her in-laws. Relatives recall her adorable laugh, how she loved holding new babies, and in particular her own grandchildren. New additions to our wider family through marriage remember how she made them feel welcome at holidays and gatherings as they acclimated. Strangers became friends through her friendly approach and ability to carry a conversation. She shined so brightly she shimmered.

Initially, she lived as a full-time mother to Josie, Tara, and Tim, but eventually attended Wadena Technical college, earned her degree, and started her professional career at Greater Staples Hospital. She was an achiever, ascending the ranks, becoming a Human Resources Manager. She also worked at Morey’s Seafood in Motley and lastly at Tri-County Health care in Wadena. Janet earned a Bachelor’s degree in Management later in life, too; always the achiever.

Later in life she married Dennis Reed and they made their home near Clarissa, MN on the Reed farm. They had a great circle of friends and were able to travel North America together, visiting Mexico, Montana and California, among other destinations. They cruised the states on Dennis’s motorcycle creating cherished memories along the way. Throughout her life, but especially in later years she shared a strong bond with her mother Neola, sister Darlys, and her Aunt Diane Aga; family and friendship bound them together.

She is preceded in death by her father, Willard. She is survived by her husband, Dennis, children Josie (Jeff) Fix of Edina, MN, Tara Snyder of Ramsey, MN, Timothy (Jennifer) Snyder of Gilbert, AZ. She’s also survived by her mother, Neola, siblings Vicky, Lonnie, Darlys, well-loved grandchildren; Dennis’ children, Jeremy (Angie) Reed, Nikki (Jamie) Weber, Kyle (Kendra) Reed, Jayme (Jay) Reed; and numerous other relatives and friends she held dear and lives she touched. She has left us, and we are crushed, but she’s never fully gone so long as we remember her, her actions, or traits. Think about the ways she touched your life; keep those thoughts close, and breathe life into her legacy.
