A memorial service in her honor will take place at the Iten Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Helen will be buried at a later date at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Helen Alma was born on February 14, 1951, in Sauk Centre, to Russell and Irene (Riermann) Wallin. She graduated from Spring Lake Park High School in 1969 and attended college at Alexandria Technical College. After graduating from college, she began working at Fingerhut in Alexandria. It was there that she would meet the love of her life, Dean Chromey, through a mutual coworker. Dean often described Helen as a beautiful and kind person, someone he fell deeply in love with. Helen and Dean were united in marriage on September 9, 1972, and made their residence in Little Sauk. Their union was blessed with three sons, Kenton, Brent, and Ryan. They then made the move to Grey Eagle for a number of years before finally settling down in Browerville, where they finished raising their family. While Dean worked over the road as a truck driver, Helen worked during the day, first at Donnie’s Warehouse and later at Coborn’s, where she served as produce manager, both in Long Prairie. She took great pride in her work and especially cherished being home for her boys after school and in the evenings, rarely missing their activities and events.

In their free time, Helen and Dean shared a love for dancing to polka music. They traveled throughout Minnesota and beyond, attending dances and competitions together.

Helen passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Long Prairie Hospital. Her kind heart and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She leaves behind her husband of 53-½ years, Dean; sons, Kenton (Bonita) Chromey, Brent (Angela) Chromey, and Ryan Chromey; grandchildren, Kody, Zachary, Laci, Sydney, and Alivia; siblings, Judith (Bernard) Wielenberg, Edward (Susan) Wallin, Jean (Richard) Quistorff, Norma (Dan) Hemmesch, sister-in-law, Patty Wallin; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Irene Wallin; and brother, Kenneth Wallin.
