After several years of study, she realized she knew more than the professors and left with an M.A. as an Advanced Specialist in Elementary School Counseling. She became an elementary guidance counselor in Prince George’s County and worked at several schools in the district. Hattie retired in 1991. In retirement, she and her friend Pat Griggs traveled extensively and enjoyed entertaining friends and family.
