A mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Christ the King Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to mass at the church. 

Hattie Ann Nalewaja, 94, passed away on August 10 in Roseville, MN. She was born October 15, 1927 in Browerville, MN, to Anthony and Hattie Nalewaja. She grew up on the farm milking cows, feeding chickens and helping in the fields. Hattie attended District 93, a one room country school, until fourth grade when she transferred to parochial school in Browerville. She graduated valedictorian from Browerville High School. After receiving a certificate from St. Cloud Teachers College, she earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from the U of MN. She taught elementary school in Minneota and Cloquet, Minnesota. When she was accepted into a doctoral program at the U of MD, she moved to College Park. After several years of study, she realized she knew more than the professors and left with an M.A. as an Advanced Specialist in Elementary School Counseling. She became an elementary guidance counselor in Prince George’s County and worked at several schools in the district. Hattie retired in 1991. In retirement, she and her friend Pat Griggs traveled extensively and enjoyed entertaining friends and family.

Hattie was a caring and helpful person to her family, friends, and neighbors. For decades she spent her summers in Browerville, where she enjoyed the peace and quiet of the beloved family farm.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Paul, Benedict, Leo, Ignatius, and John, and her sisters Anne, Catherine, Mathilda, Alvina, and Philomene. Survivors include many loving nieces and nephews.
