After high school, Jerry joined the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. Later he would be stationed and assigned to the Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, it is there that he would meet the love of his life, Judith Wilkerson. On September 5, 1964, the two were united in marriage. Their union was blessed with two children, Kelly and Kenton.
