Gerald Johnson, 78-year-old of rural Long Prairie, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the Calvery Lutheran Church at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to the start of the service. Burial will immediately follow at the church cemetery.
Gerald Harry was born on July 13, 1944, the son of Harry and Daisy (Delong) Johnson of Little Sauk, Minnesota. Jerry was one of six Johnson children that graduated from Long Prairie High School. After high school, Jerry joined the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. Later he would be stationed and assigned to the Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, it is there that he would meet the love of his life, Judith Wilkerson. On September 5, 1964, the two were united in marriage. Their union was blessed with two children, Kelly and Kenton. After being honorably discharged from the military, Jerry joined the operating engineers and started working in construction in Denver. Later the family would move back to Minnesota where for a time Jerry worked constriction then he started his own excavating business, where he would work for twenty years. Jerry finished his working years prior to retirement back with the union. When Jerry was not working, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Both hobbies that he started as a child, and he found a passion for. Jerry learned how to fly airplanes and held a license for twenty years. Jerry volunteered at his church and for the cemetery, being a steward of the Lord’s work. He was hardworking and enjoyed the great outdoors, but his greatest love was for his family. He loved Judith with all his heart and together they raised their sons with great pride and an abundance of love.
Jerry left us here on earth for heaven on May 25, 2023, with his loving family by his side. He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Judith; son, Kelly (Marie) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Stacy Johnson; grandchildren, Shawn, Keegan, Kelvin, and Devon; great-grandchild, Kenton Gerald Johnson; siblings; Bernice Snyder, and Harriet (Eugene) Harmeling. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenton Johnson; parents, Harry and Daisy Johnson; siblings, Helen Scott, Kathy Johnson.
