George Richard was born on December 6, 1935 in Ward Township, Todd County to Blasie & Mary (Benick) Jagush. George worked for Art Baker building homes before enlisting in the United States Army on August 7, 1958. He spent one year in Korea serving as a Quarter Master for his division. He spent every Sunday visiting the orphanages while he was stationed in Korea. George was honorably discharged on July 6, 1960, he then joined the National Guard for 2 years and was honorably discharged as a Sargent First Class. Upon returning home, George became involved in carpentry with Art Baker building homes. After Art’s retirement, George along with his crew carried on. On May 30, 1960, George married his best friend Geraldine (Geri) Spychala.
George owned and operated Jagush Building Supply. During this time, he established two developments: Pine Haven and Killdeer Drive and built Browerville’s first apartment. He was the President of the Browerville Commercial Club; and together with friends started the Todd County Trail Association. George worked as a rural mail carrier for 12 years and served as a Todd County Commissioner for 8 years.
George love to elk Hunt, deer hunt; in his retirement he enjoyed shaking dice with his friends. As busy as George was, he was a kind and thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed going to tractor pulls where he won over 50 trophies. George was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, American Legion, VFW, and a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
George is preceded in death by his parents and brother Anthony. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Geri; children: Michael (Michelle) Jagush, Gina (Nathan Bettis) Statema; grandchildren: Jordan, Jared, Julia, John, Erik, Sarah, Ella, Rachel, Joel; great grandson, James; siblings: Joe Jagush and Joann Lewis; nieces, nephews and several cousins.
