George Charles Bauer was born November 4, 1934, in Long Prairie, MN., to Peter and Loretta (Escher) Bauer. Being one of four children, he learned to be a prankster at a young age, and this continued into his adulthood. In May of 1953, George joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Before being honorably discharged in 1955, George married the true woman of his dreams, Evelyn Stigen, on December 27, 1954. George and Evelyn were blessed with three children: Carole, Diane, and Steven, who learned to love the pranks of their father. George’s love for Evelyn was immense, and spending his days with her after retirement was truly a gift.

George worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years yet managed to travel to all 50 states and Canada. The traveling bug ran deep inside George, and he loved to tell the stories of his travels.  When not working or traveling, he kept his garden and home in pristine condition, not a weed or speck of dust. George was a member of the Long Prairie VFW, ST. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.  After retirement, George learned to be a good cook and even started making quilts with Evelyn. Spending their days together was a blessing.

Surviving to tell George’s stories are his children, Carole (Richard) Schoenrock, and Steven (Terry) Bauer; son-in-law, Kenneth Krause; grandchildren, Christopher Krause, Stephanie Bauer, Charlie (Victoria) Bauer, and Elizabeth (Jonathan) Bauer-Martinez; great grandchildren Robert Bauer, Lyrik Bauer, Leslie Bauer-Ferroni, Lillian Bauer-Martinez and Logan Bauer-Martinez.

Preceding George in death, his loving wife, Evelyn; his daughter, Diane Krause; his parents, Peter and Loretta Bauer; and Evelyn’s parents, Albert and Mildred Stigen, sister, Lola Satterfield; brothers, Robert (Arlene) Bauer and Melvin (MaryAnn) Bauer.
