Gary Mau, age 59 of Long Prairie, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 27, 2024, at his home.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie. Visitation will take place at the church on Friday May 31, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and will continue the day of the service one-hour prior. Both visitations’ will take place at the church.  A burial will follow the memorial service on Saturday, at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Rural Long Prairie Township.  

Gary Lee Mau, was born on December 13, 1964, to Raymond and Della (Berg) Mau of rural Long Prairie. He was the oldest of four children to the couple and was

the loving big brother to Gordon, Joan and Gloria. Gary’s mother passed away when he was in grade school, the family pulled together and continued to farm. Gary and his siblings were typical farm kids. They worked and helped their dad with the daily activities, and when they weren’t busy working they played, made forts and went fishing! He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Gary attended Trinity Lutheran School through the eighth grade and then transferred to Long Prairie High School where he graduated in 1984 with a diploma. After high school Gary continued to work on his Dad’s farm. Gary’s Dad sold the farm in 1992 and built a home in town, where he and Gary lived. After the passing of Gary’s Dad, he moved to his own apartment and started working at the Step store.

Gary was an avid fan of any Minnesota sports teams. He just attended a Minnesota Twins game! He enjoyed being busy, typically going for a daily walk around his neighborhood. He had an amazing smile that he frequently shared with others. His smiley happy personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Gary passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at his home in Long Prairie. He was 59 years old. He was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Raymond and Della; and siblings, Gordon and Gloria. He leaves behind his sister, Joan (Bob) Casperson; nieces, Kellie (fiancé, Tyler Shequen) Casperson, Sara Casperson; great nieces and nephews, Aubrey Casperson and Adalyn Casperson, Luke Cueva, and Henry Cueva.
