On July 7, 1946, Gary Alfred Kuhn was born the son of Alfred and Myrtle (Butzke) Kuhn. He graduated from Browerville High School. While in school he played football, basketball, and baseball. In a baseball playoff game set the state high school record for pitching 21 innings in a single game. At the age of 16 he started helping his uncle Art farm and also picked up the trade of plumbing and heating. Long hours were spent, but he enjoyed the work and challenge of learning something new. He later joined the United States Air Force. He trained as a Morse Interception Operator, was promoted to Staff Sergeant and served for two years in Japan and also in the Vietnam War. He was able to have some fun while being in Japan, he was selected to play on their football league the Hakata Air Force “Rockets” in 1966, where he was named “Outstanding Player”. After Gary was honorably discharged from the Air Force he returned home and worked for a short time at Onan Motors in Minneapolis. On December 27, 1969, Gary married the love of his life, Glenda Gritz. The two were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Browerville. He missed the fresh air and country living and jumped at the opportunity to purchase a dairy and beef farm in rural Bertha. Gary and Glenda were blessed with two children, Genny and Gary W. Years later he expanded the farm size and started a hog farm business as well. The couple later opened their home and hearts to 56 foster children of various ages, including two that they adopted, Joni Norris and Wynter Lewis.

Family was Gary’s everything. He was the super Dad of Dad’s, always being supportive to the kids, and attending their sporting events or concerts. He was the Dad that took over easter egg hiding, taught the kids about fishing and hunting and made holidays extra special for the whole family- making them magical. His knack for baking delicious sweets came in handy to share with family and friends over a game of cards or as they cheered on his favorite sports teams the Minnesota Twins and Vikings! Gary was the caring, kind gentle soul that nurtured his family, his thoughtful nature did not go unnoticed. He was the rock of the family and a natural caretaker to all who entered his home.

On Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the age of 76, Gary passed away entering his eternal home. He leaves behind his wife of almost 53 years, Glenda; his daughter Genny and her son, Garrett; his son, Gary W., his wife Carlee and their daughter, Taelor; siblings, David (Kristine) Kuhn, Karen (Larry) Quade, Ivan (Pat) Gritz, Arylis (Robert) Perish; he is loved and respected by many nieces, nephews and greats. He is preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Alfred Kuhn; his mother and father-in-law, Edwina and Clarence Gritz; and his adopted daughter, Joni Norris.
