David Funk, an 86-year-old man of Staples, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples.

A funeral service will take place for him on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Iten Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM. A visitation for David will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place later that day at Woodman Cemetery in rural Clarissa.

 

Memorials are preferred to the Berean Baptist Church, 24995 County Highway 6,  Detroit Lakes, MN 56501, per David's wife Marilyn's request.

 

David Lee Funk was born to Bernard and Esther Funk on April 24, 1939, in Tustin, Michigan.

During his high school years, David participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He later attended the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was there that he met Marilyn, who became his beloved wife on August 19, 1961. Together, they shared 64 years of marriage and faithfully served the Lord side by side in ministry for 58 years.

David had a deep and abiding love for the Word of God. He devoted his life to serving the Lord and sharing the message of salvation with others. He carried a sincere burden for souls and desired that all would come to know Christ. His faith was the foundation of his life, guiding his actions, his words, and his love for others.

For much of his life, David also enjoyed deer and elk hunting, a pastime he treasured most when shared with his children and grandchildren. He was known for his sense of humor and for the love and kindness he showed to his family. He was a devoted husband, a caring father, and a proud grandfather who led by both word and example.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; and their three children, with whom they were so richly blessed: Juli Funk, Lori (Alan) Halbersma, and Steve (Gina) Funk. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Aaron Bloomstrom, Mariah Mckinney,, Nichelle Halbersma, Rachel Halbersma, Crystal Halbersma, Gracie Funk, and Brodie Funk; and his brother, Ronnie Funk.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Esther Funk.

David’s life was a testimony of faith, and his legacy will live on in the many lives he touched for Christ.
