Darlis Jean {Sombke}
{Bue-Hamilton}
Born February 23rd 1939 - Journey Home November 17th 2023
Darlis’ life story begins in Ferney, South Dakota, born and raised by her parents, Alvin and Adeline Sombke. It didn’t take Darlis long to learn how to become a strong woman. She was raised with 5 brothers, and this prepared her for the path of life she was about to start with her husband, Carl, Jr.
Darlis and Carl Bue Jr. Married June 9th 1957-1975
Making their home in Granite Falls, Minnesota bringing six children into the world, while farming the land. They moved to Browerville, Minnesota in 1970, and this is where they added their 7th child and continued farming on a larger scale.
March of 1975, Darlis is forced by life’s path to say good bye to Carl Jr. She leaned on the Lord’s strength and pulling together strength with in herself to raise her 7 children all under the age of 16.
Darlis was only 36 years old and knew she had so much life to live and had a boat load of kids that needed love, food and care. Darlis’ needs were met with amazing family, neighbors, church parishioners and the locals in Browerville who came to help with food, farm field work, and the auction.
Darlis saved a piece of her cow pasture and her South Dakota brothers traveled from afar with equipment to help create a beautiful landscape on the hill so Darlis could finish creating her home for herself and the kids. She took on many jobs, waitressing, working at the sewing factory, selling KEYL radio ads. She then landed a job at Land O'Lakes in Browerville where she met Laurel Hamilton. They were married the fall of 1978. With this marriage she gained two adult children and grandkids of Laurel’s.
Darlis and Laurel enjoyed life and kept busy with all their growing children, sports, graduations, marriages, grandbabies, and even took in two exchange students. They spent fabulous time in Laughlin, Nevada where Darlis enjoyed a job helping a catering company. Enjoying Life! Soon after Darlis was forced with life’s path once again and needed to make her journey home alone. Darlis said goodbye to Laurel in February 1996.
Darlis filled her days with working full time again at Morey’s Factory and later Jennie-O Turkey. Darlis retired and occupied her remaining years with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Personal moments were spent enjoying ceramics, crafting, bowling leagues, crocheting, morning coffee with besties and attending church services at Zion Lutheran.
