Daniel Arlan King was born on July 2, 1959, the son of Arlan and Bernadette (Langer) King of Farmington, Minnesota. The family later would move to rural Eagle Bend where the kids could run freely and help care for the animals, Dan loved the horses. Dan graduated from Eagle Bend High School in 1977. After high school, Dan started working various jobs. He eventually moved to Colorado before finally settling in Portland, Oregon. Along the way, he learned the trade of hanging drywall. Dan proved to be very talented with the work, having the patience to piece everything together. This would be his career until he returned to Eagle Bend in 2010 to help care for his mother. In between caring for her, Dan worked various jobs, mainly doing small remodels for people he knew. Dan was diagnosed with cancer in the winter of 2021.

Dan met Vickie Ahrendt, and the two would later marry. Their union was blessed with one child, Justin. The marriage later dissolved. Dan continued to spend as much time as possible with Justin. After moving to Oregon Dan would later remarry, but his wife Renee later passed away. When Dan was not spending time with family or working, you could often find him out in nature hunting or taking in all of the natural beauty. He found peace in the boat on the lake fishing and camping. Dan was a talented woodworker, building and creating things for their home and gifts for others. Dan enjoyed taking in many sporting events, he enjoyed being at the ball field watching his grandson. He could be found sitting down the foul line with a smile. He lived a very private life. Dan was the person that would sit quietly and listen to others as they discussed life and told stories, every once in a while, he would add something witty to the conversation, catching a smile or chuckle.

A very patient, kind man left us here on earth on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the St. Williams Care Center in Parkers Prairie. Dan was 63 years old. He leaves behind his son, Justin (Alicia) Ahrendt; stepson, Nathan Marchese; siblings, Chris (Pam) King, Jeff (Joanne) King, Patrick (Michelle) King, Michele (Pete) McCleary, Steve (Marci) King, and Kevin King; grandchildren Ava, Sophie and Carter; special friend Debi Schlosser, numerous aunts and uncles, and godmother Agnes Geiser, many nieces, nephews, and friends he met along the way. He was preceded in death by his wife, Renee; parents, Arlan and Bernadette King; and infant child.
