Charles "Charlie" Buhl Obituary

Charlie Buhl, of Long Prairie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Centracare Long Prairie Hospital. He was 98 years old.

A Mass of Christian burial service will occur on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie at 11:00 AM. A rosary will be prayed at 9:15 AM, with visitation to follow until the start of the Mass. Burial will immediately follow the service at the church cemetery.

Charles Paul Buhl was born on February 16, 1925, the fourth child of nine to Charles and Martha (Jarosch) Buhl of Iona Township. Charlie attended grade school and then started helping at his family farm. When he reached eligibility age, Charles enlisted in the United State Army serving his country in the South Pacific of Japan. Upon retiring to the United States and being honorably discharged from the Army, Charles started driving semi-trucks.  He would spend the next 32 years driving throughout the United States, primarily in the Midwest Region.

On July 30, 1949, Charlie married Miss Emma Pachan at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis. The couple were devout in their faith in God and were of St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie. Charlie was also a lifetime member of the VFW, enjoying the camaraderie and friendships made with his fellow service members.  When Charlie was not busy working, he enjoyed fishing, cooking, and baking his famous coffee cakes and always had an extra loaf of homemade bread for any guest. Charlie and Emma were not able to have their own children but shared their love of life with many friends and family members. Charlie was always considerate of others; he had a memory that was as sharp as a whip! If you ever wanted to know what was wrong with the country, he could tell you. And he also knew how to fix it. He had great Faith! He stood for his beliefs and was proud to be a Christian. Charlie was very proud of being a World War II veteran, as his dad served during WWI. He always remembered to send his family members birthday and anniversary cards. He had a good solid mindset and a quick wit and sense of humor. Charlie will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Charlie was reunited with Emma in heaven on March 30, 2023, at the age of 98. He also met his parents, Charles and Martha; siblings, Genevieve Berndt, Mary Stach, Beatrice Brown, Delores Steinmetz, Gordon Buhl, Peter Buhl, Tony (Audrey) Buhl; many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sister, JoAnn Gosell; many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members he met along the way.
