On the same day she entered the world—June 22—Carol Ann Johnson peacefully left it, earning her wings and soaring to heaven at the age of 78. Her life was a beautiful full circle of love and devotion. Carol was the fifth child of ten, born to Leo and Julia (McCormick) Salo of Sebeka. She attended school in Sebeka and, after completing her studies, moved to Osakis where she worked as a nanny for a local family. During this time, she met the love of her life, John O. Johnson. Carol and John were united in marriage at Salem Lutheran Church on October 15, 1966. Where she was then confirmed in 1967. They made their home on a farm next to John’s family farm, where they lovingly raised their family. Carol was a naturally caring and loving person, which led her to open and run her own daycare out of their home. Over the years, she welcomed many children, nurturing each as if they were her own. Her home was always open, especially in the summer when nieces and nephews would come stay, getting a taste of farm life and Carol’s boundless hospitality. Together with John, they gave family youth an appreciation for hard work, fun, and a loving family environment. Carol was always working, but not just for chores. She made time to bake pies, host celebrations, and give the grandkids their favorite treats. Each birthday, she prepared a homemade pie, one for every year of their lives. When she wasn’t baking, she enjoyed needlepoint, sewing, music, and volunteering at church fundraisers. Her warmth and kindness made their home the center of countless treasured memories. As their children grew, married, and started families of their own, Carol’s heart remained full. Even though they moved just a few miles away, her joy grew stronger with each visit, phone call, and family gathering. She cherished those relationships and ensured they always stayed close-knit. Carol had a deep love of music and never turned down the chance to listen to it, especially gospel music. She entered heaven on her 78th birthday, surrounded by peace and love. She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, John Johnson; children, Anne (Paul) Matthys, Julie (David) Hiltner, Michael (Marcy) Johnson and William (Vicki) Johnson; grandchildren, Denelle (Andy Blonigen) Kirk, Elizabth Matthys, , Tiffany (Seth) Christensen, Alicia (Calvin Kipf) Hiltner, Dain (Giao) Johnson, Emma ( Jake Von Wahlde) Johnson, Levi ( Eva Moore) Johnson, Alexis (Tyler Chounard) Johnson, Tyler (Kelsey) Peterka, Amanda (Adam) Gerands; Josh Peterka; great grandchildren Ashton & Ian Kirk, Nya Sunder, Gavyn & Mallory Christensen, Jedidiah Johnson, Kayden Johnson, Bentley Chounard, Kennedy & Everleigh Wachmann, & Myla & Jax Gerands; siblings, Alice Arndt, Ervin Salo, Bob (Dee) Salo, Donna (Watson) Johnson, Judy (Don) Andreassen, Rosie Benavidez, Connie Juntunen, Tommy Salo, and Linda Seed; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
