Carol Becker 80, died on December 18, 2020 at her residence in Eagle Bend. At Carol’s request, no funeral will be held. A private family interment will be held at a later date at the Eagle Bend Cemetery, Eagle Bend.
Carol Janet Wells was born July 18, 1940 in Paxton Township, Redwood County, MN, the youngest of six children born to Frederick “Fred” Glen Wells and Helen Alma (Champion) Wells. Her parents moved to Eagle Bend when she was five years old. She was always proud of the community and the Eagle Bend Public School where she received her education, graduating in 1958.
Carol and John “Jack” Becker were married on October 12, 1959. They made their home in Eagle Bend; Carol and Jack were the parents of David Charles, Jeffery Michael, Karen Mary, and Curtis Steven Becker. From the time she was 10 years old, Carol had “printer’s ink” in her veins, finding odd jobs to do at the Eagle Bend News then owned by Lester and Lois (Wells) Hayenga. Her love of newspapers spanned a career of almost 50 years. She made the transition from hot lead type to computers; becoming a reporter/writer/proofreader for the editors who succeeded the Hayenga’s. Carol spent 16 years as a substitute librarian for the Great River Regional Library system and had worked in the office of Bruce Livinghouse DVM.
Carol was active in politics. She served as parliamentarian, executive secretary and worked on many local, state, and national committees and campaigns. She was a charter and lifetime member of the Eagle Bend Historical Society and its museum.
Many people knew of her fascination with elephants. Friends and relatives brought or sent elephant figurines to her from all over the world Even her tombstone has an elephant carved on it! She was also known for her penchant of wearing moccasins (even under her wedding dress!) and silver/turquoise jewelry.
Carol was the last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack in 2017; siblings: Russell E. Wells, Glenn N. Wells, Gladyce Henrickson, Kathryn Hennessy and Lois Hayenga Noetzelman.
She is survived by her sons: David Becker, Jeff (Jill Goff) Becker Sr., Curt (Jennifer Pullins) Becker; daughter, Karen Becker; 18 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; Sisters-in-law: numerous nephews, nieces and 1 cousin.
