Carla Kay (Johnson) Determan

Carla Determan of Long Prairie, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Carla was 70 years old.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville on Friday, July 21, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and will continue the day of the mass at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow at the St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Long Prairie, MN. 

Carla Kay was born on January 3, 1953, the daughter of Carl Johnson and Jane (Melchert) Goff. She attended school in Staples.  Later she completed her GED with her sisters. Carla met a young man by the name of Rudolph Determan and the two were united in Marriage February 13, 1971, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. The couple raised their four children, Tina, Toni, Rudy III and Teri, on their farm outside of Long Prairie, Minnesota. Carla stayed home with her children, until her youngest started school. Then she worked at various jobs in customer service.

Carla was a gentle soul to her family and friends. She loved every minute with her grandchildren, cherishing the times that she could pass on her secrets to her baking and cooking recipes. The only secret that she had let out to everyone was to use lots of real butter. She was a very particular cook, but her food was amazing, so who could really argue with her?! No one ever left her house with an empty stomach, usually having leftovers for people to take with them. Carla was the community daycare and second mom to many, always opening her door to family and friends that needed help. Her make it happen and generous loving personality is already missed by her loved ones.

Carla passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, after struggling with multiple health complications. She was joined in heaven by her husband of 52 years, Rudolph Determan Jr.; parents, Carl Johnson and Jane Goff; siblings, David Johnson, Terry Goff and Sharon Goff.

She leaves behind her children, children, Tina (Allen) Scherping, Toni Determan, Rudy Determan III, Teri (Chad) Kuehne and the boy that grew to be like a son, Jim Goff; twelve grandchildren, Alita (Brandon) McKenzie, Brady (Abby) Scherping, Brittany (Max) Walter, Rudy Determan IV, Ava (Erich Holmquist) Determan, Wyatt Determan, Brandy Jonas and great grandson Griffin, Weston Watercott,  Caroline (Travis Wettstein) Kuehne, Caylee Kuehne, Cierra Kuehne and Chad Kuehne Jr; siblings, Ed Johnson, Cathy (Bob) Tripp, Geri Mertens.
