Betty Ann was born on July 25, 1935, the daughter of Oscar and Inez (Taylor) Wiseth of Marshall County Minnesota. She graduated high school and would later marry Marvin Poegel Sr. The couple were blessed with five children, Roxeann, Marvin Jr., Cheryl, Paul, and Robert. The couple raised their family in Swanville, Long Prairie area. The couple later divorced. Once all the children were in school, Betty started working as a nursing assistant in local nursing homes. She found great joy in caring for and helping the residents. She especially enjoyed caring for the retired priests that resided at St. John’s Abby for 20 plus years prior to retirement.
Betty always had a wide variety of flowers in her beds and gardens at home. When she was not caring for her family or residents, she would enjoy quiet time with a good book, weeding her garden, or sewing clothing for her children. She created beautiful quilts to not only warm their bodies but become a cherished memory she would give as gifts for special occasions. Each child, grandchild, and great grandchild has a special quilt made with love from her.
Betty was always ready with her quick wit and spunky personality. She loved to bake and would always make extras to share with neighbors and friends. When she moved into an apartment complex in Swanville, she organized appetizer and wine get-togethers. Betty always sent her kids and their family’s home with baked goodies. With Betty’s passing, there will be a few dull moments for her family and friends, but they will cherish the memories they made forever.
Betty took her last breath here on earth Friday, September 22, 2023, at the Long Prairie Care Center. She was 88 years young.
