Aloysius Wettstein Obituary

Aloysius "Al" Wettstein passed away on Friday morning, November 5, 2021, at the Long Prairie Nursing Home. Al was 91 years old.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Long Prairie, Minnesota at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place Monday, November 8, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church with a prayer service taking place at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue to the day of Mass at the church one hour prior to mass.

Burial will take place after mass at the church cemetery.

 

Aloysius Wettstein, 91, of Long Prairie, passed away on November 5, 2021. Mass of Christian burial for Al will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at St. Mary’s of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie with Fr. Mitchell Bechtold officiating. Friends may call on Monday, November 8, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Mary’s of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with a prayer service taking place at 7:00 PM. Burial will be held at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Long Prairie.

Aloysius Michael was born February 3, 1930, in Long Prairie Township, Todd County, one of twelve children, to Otto & Mary (Hansen) Wettstein. He graduated from the Long Prairie High School in 1948. Al farmed with his father until 1953, when he entered the Army. He served two years and was honorably discharged in December of 1955. Al married Beverly Raschke January 28, 1957, and continued to farm on the family farm until he retired.

Al’s hobbies included hunting, making wood and the love of trees on the farm, especially his apple trees.  Al and his wife traveled extensively in the United States and other countries throughout his lifetime.  He was a member of the Long Prairie Town Board for over 38 years, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and volunteered at the Long Prairie Nursing Home for many years helping with church services.

Al is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Patty Seifert, eight sisters; two brothers; mother and father in law, Walter and Lucille Raschke.

Al is survived by his wife Beverly; children:  Lynette (Fred) Cain of Blomkest, Tom Wettstein (special friend, Vivian) of Long Prairie, Dan (Pauline) Wettstein of Pick City, N.D., Scott (Lesa) Wettstein of Long Prairie, Mary (Jeffrey) Littler of Long Prairie, son-in-law Andy Seifert of Clarissa; 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; sisters:  Loretta Bruner.
