Sidney "Jack" Bican Obituary

Jack Bican, 91 of Clarissa died October 8, 2019 at the St. Cloud Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held for Jack Saturday, October 26 ,2019 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Clarissa.

Jack was born January 30, 1928 in Browerville to John and Agnes (Sumey) Bican.   Jack married Gina Mashuga in 1950; who died unexpectedly.  He married Darlene Swanson in 1953.  He owned and operated the Clarissa Meat Market for forty-two years and owned four farms where Jack raised beef cattle and hogs for the meat market. While owning the meat market Jack employed many people including high school students for summer work.  After selling the meat market he worked at the meat market in Eagle Bend until he retired at the age of 89.

Jack loved being busy and if he wasn’t at the meat market, he was in his garden or picking rocks until dark; there was always something to do when Jack was around.

Jack enjoyed deer hunting and all the excitement when his kids or grand kids got one.  He also liked fishing, including trips to Canada, on the ice and open water.  Jack had a love of watching westerns; he truly enjoyed going on vacation with his kids to Mexico to swim in the ocean and ride horse.  His favorite animals were ducks and chickens, but when you drove into his farm, he always had a cat or two trailing him.

Jack was one of a kind and will forever be missed by his family and friends.

Jack is survived by five daughters, Judy Branum of Shoreview, Trudy Bican of Shoreview, Dawn (Billy) Brown of Eagle Bend, Brenda (Eric) Mergen of Albany and Vicki Goad of Sartell, two sons, Jack (Kelly) Bican of Clarissa and Brian (Jackie) Bican of Monticello; sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, brother Warren Bican of Isanti and sister Sharon (Bob) Host of Clarissa.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes, his first wife, Gina, brother Norman and sister Delores Olson.
