John E. Strom

  John E. Strom, 85, of Aldrich, died Monday, March 11, 2019 at the Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples.  Graveside services for John will be held at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples at a later date. John was born in Bertha on April 27, 1933, the son of John G. Strom and Lilian M. Erickson Strom.  John graduated from Staples High School in 1951.  He attended St. Olaf University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree.  He was drafted into the US Army on September 20, 1956 and was honorably discharged on September 8, 1958. After returning home, John helped his mother with the mink ranch in Aldrich.  He also worked at Benson Optical in Staples as an optician.  Later John worked at Wal-Mart in Baxter in the optical department until his retirement.   John was a Mason, a member of the Congregational Church in Aldrich and later the United Methodist Church in Staples.   He served as the Aldrich City Clerk for many years.   John is preceded in death by his parents; sister Janice Strom Cameron and nephew Jeff. John is survived by his brother-in-law Don Cameron of Baxter; nephews:  Stephen (Cathie) Cameron of Pierz, Jon (Felicia) Cameron of Santee, CA; nieces:  Jani "Susie" (Scott) Nundahl of Aldrich, Jodi Cameron of Baxter; 6 great nieces and 2 great nephews.
