John William Martin

John Martin, 80 of Staples and Austin, passed away on August 7, 2019.  Funeral services for John will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at the Church of Christ in Staples with Pastor Barry Klein officiating.  Friends may call on the day of the funeral from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church. 

John William was born April 1, 1939, in Austin to Charles Joseph & Ester Effie (Frisby) Martin.  In 1957, John married Karen Jeannette Madison at the Church of Christ in Austin.  After he retired from Hormel, John and Jeannette enjoyed spending many summers in Staples, where he was involved in Tuesday night men’s small group and going to the sale barn every Wednesday.    He was a master wood worker, and a member of the Church of Christ in Austin and Staples.

John is preceded in death by his parents; siblings:  Charles Martin, Robert Martin, George Martin, Allen Martin and MaryAnn Johnson.

John is survived by his wife Jeannette; children:  John Patrick (Kathy) Martin of Austin, Jill Irene (Kevin) Bennett of Dickinson, North Dakota, James William (Ashley) Martin of Rochester; grandchildren:  Jeremy James Martin, Joseph Thomas Bennett, Jeffrey Charles Bennett; great grandchildren:  Mya Elizabeth Bennett, Dustin Robert Bennett, Andrew James Bennett, Noah William Bennett, Isaac Jay Bennett; siblings:  Alice (Denis) Whelan of Albert Lea, Betty (Ron) Soderberg and many nieces and nephews.
