Arnie was born November 22, 1929, in Ward Township, Todd County, to Helmer and Alice (Lidberg) Turner. Arnie was drafted into the US Army in 1953 and was honorable discharged in 1955. On June 14, 1957, Arnie married Shirley June Orr at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend. Arnie farmed with his wife until his retirement in 2004. He worked various jobs over the years; Rust and Dahlman Construction, Clarissa Co-op Produce, and the Todd County Boat and Water Patrol. He worked hard all his life.
When Arnie was 16 years old, he would walk with snowshoes for several miles a day and check his trap lines. Arnie enjoyed all types of hunting and fishing in the summer. In the winter he enjoyed ice fishing and fox hunting. Arnie had a great love for the outdoors, and he loved to plant the crops and harvest them. Arnie enjoyed and spent time with his horses; going on many rides with friends and rode fence for Douglas County Fair for about 15 years.
Arnie loved playing cards, bowling, dancing and listening to country and old-time music. He spent hours reading western paperback books and watching all the birds at our feeders. Arnie spent many hours cutting the lawn keeping it nice around his wife’s many flower beds.
Arnie was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 213 for 64 years. He will be remembered for telling jokes and teasing people in fun. He loved his family and was extremely proud of them.
Arnie is preceded in death by his parents, Helmer and Alice.
Arnie is survived by his wife Shirley, son Doug (Karen Johnson) Turner, sisters-in-law, Clara Motl, Jean Henning, Jane Fritz, brothers-in-law, Eldon (Mary) Hybl, Roger (Bea) Orr and many nieces and nephews.
