Jerome “Shorty” Salber, 82 of Browerville died on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the St. Cloud Hospital.  A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 7, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Browerville with Fr. David Maciej officiating.   Interment was at Christ the King Catholic Cemetery in Browerville.

 

Shorty was born July 3, 1926 on the family farm in Petersburg, Nebraska to George & Anna (Schmitt) Salber.   He attended parochial school graduating in 1944.  After high school, Shorty farmed for several years until he was drafted in 1951 for the Korean War.   Shorty was honorably discharged in December 1952.  He married Frances Ollendick February 10, 1953 at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, Nebraska.  After their marriage, Shorty farmed with his dad until they moved to the Cresco, IA area.  In 1963, they moved to their farm in Ward Township near Browerville.  Shorty retired in 1993, and he and Frances moved to their current home near Horseshoe Lake.  Shorty took up woodworking at this time.  He enjoyed fishing and playing cards.  Shorty loved to spend time with his grandchildren & great grandchildren.  He especially loved Christmas and his birthday because all of the family would get together.  He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Browerville and the American Legion. 

 

Shorty is survived by his wife Frances of Browerville, children:  Ronald (Jane) Salber of Barnesville, Michael (Keri) Salber of Browerville, Judy (Don) Asmus of Browerville, Patricia (Ken) Berg of Staples, Cinthia (Roger) Wippler of Roseville, Nancy (Robert) Schwartz of Becker, 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, brothers:  Leonard, Raymond, Robert, sisters:  Lucille Lordeman, and Sister Agnes O.S.B.

 

Shorty is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Sharon, brothers Clarence, Joseph, Wilfred and sisters:  Celestine and Sister Anella O.S.B.
