Russell Christensen, 86 , of Browerville, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at his home. Funeral services for Russell will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011, 11:00, at the Assembly of God Church in Long Prairie with Pastor John Serrano officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville and on the day of the service beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the church. Burial is at Evergreen Cemetery in Browerville.
Russell was born on October 28, 1924 in Big Flats, Wisconsin to Ira and Esther (Briggs) Christensen. Russell served in the US Army and was honorably discharged. On June 2, 1956 he married Fern Meyer in Mason City, Iowa. Together they resided in Rockford, MN until 1972 where he worked construction jobs. In 1972 they moved to a farm in Browerville where Russell farmed to the present. Russell enjoyed building bird houses and helping his children and grandchildren with their building projects. His many hobbies included fly fishing, hunting, watching western movies on T.V., going out to eat, scratch off tickets, and especially doing his field work.
Russell is preceded in death by his beloved wife Fern, infant daughter, parents and brother Vaughn.
Russell is survived by his children: Mark (Sheryl) Christensen of Browerville, Chris (Jennifer) Christensen of Browerville, Dale (Paula) Christensen of Browerville, Tammy Christensen of Browerville, Darrell Christensen of Browerville, Teresa (Kraig Kruse) Christensen of Browerville, Jay (Carisue) Christensen of Springfield, Missouri, Brent Christensen of Browerville, 21 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; sister Jeanette Mortensen of White Fish, Montana, niece Linda Riemer of Almira, Wisconsin and his dog Shyla.
