Marlys was born March 25, 1945 in Alexandria to Sam & Dorothy (Covel) Moen.  She lived most of her younger years in Clarissa where she went to country school and then graduated from Clarissa High School in 1963.  On October 24, 1964, she married Delmer Peterson.  Marlys lived a large part of her life in Wadena working as a waitress, after moving to St. Cloud she worked as an order processor for 12 years.

Marlys was fascinated with water, she always wanted to be near it, she loved the sound of it and the peacefulness.  She especially enjoyed the North Shore on Lake Superior watching the water and the waves hitting the rocks.  Marlys enjoyed reading books, magazines and newspapers.

Marlys was completely dedicated to her family, she would go out of her way to make her home welcome to all.  She has shown us that family sticks together and we help each other out.  We could always count on the great advice she would give.

Marlys is survived by her husband Delmer, children:  Brian Peterson, Michele Kako, Rob Peterson, Kris Packard, Sherri Peterson, Brad Peterson and Todd Peterson;  23 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sisters:  Shirley (Neal) Pollard of Clarissa, Pauline Anderson of Detroit Lakes and Brenda (Tim) Page of Henning.

Marlys is preceded in death by her  parents.
