
Phyllis Elaine Gaare, 93 of Browerville, passed away on September 28, 2011, at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa. Funeral services for Phyllis were held on Friday, November 30, 2011, 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Nate Loer officiating. Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery, Browerville.
Phyllis Elaine Sorenson was born in Verndale Minnesota to Sam and Vernie Sorenson on November 4, 1917. She graduated from Verndale High School in 1933 and then attended The Asbury Hospital School of Nursing, in Minneapolis, where she earned her R.N. degree in 1937. After graduation, Phyllis worked at St. Barnabas Hospital before becoming the company nurse at Northern Ordinance, Minneapolis Moline and Northern States Power.
In 1956 she married Floyd Ollie Gaare. Floyd and Phyllis moved to their Browerville farm in 1961 where they raised cattle and hogs. They enjoyed learning of the new innovations in farming besides having hobbies like cheese and wine making.
After Floyd’s death in 1977, Phyllis moved into Browerville. She continued to work as a nurse in Staples and Clarissa. Phyllis organized several TOPS clubs and then became involved with The Literacy Project where she taught older adults to read.
She was preceded in death by her parent’s, infant sister Julia, husband Floyd, sister Elizabeth and brother Samuel Wayne. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and good friends.
