Dorothy Marie Nelson was born at home on May 14, 1920, three weeks after her parents moved to their farm three miles north of Clarissa. She died July 17 at 6:12 p.m. at the Todd County Care Center in Clarissa.
Dot attended elementary school at School District 47, a country school. She graduated from Clarissa Public High School. Afterwards, she moved to the Twin Cities where she worked at number of jobs, including a stint in a WWII munitions factory. She married Warren Rudolph (Rudy) Aspengren on August 14, 1944, and moved back to Clarissa to farm with Rudy and to raise their three children.
Dot was an active and faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and later Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, in Clarissa. She participated in garden and study clubs and volunteered for many years at the Todd County Care Center before she herself came to live there.
She is preceded in death by three brothers—Orlyn, Clifford, and Wallace Nelson—father Arthur, mother Minnie, and husband Rudy Aspengren. She is survived by her brother Donald, sisters Jean (Reemtsma) and Genevieve (Crider); her children Mary (Preisler), Lyle, and Debra (Meyer); seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
