Ernest "Alfred" Meyer, 87, of Eagle Bend, passed away on November 4, 2008, at the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home.  Funeral services for Alfred were held on Saturday, November 8, 2008, 1:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Clarissa with Pastor Josh Doughty officiating.    Interment will be at Woodman Cemetery in Clarissa.  

Alfred was born on May 31, 1921 in Sioux County, Iowa, to Frederick & Wilhelmena (Binder) Meyer.  On January 27, 1949, Alfred married Ellen Tirrel at George, Iowa.  Alfred and Ellen moved to Clarissa in 1969.  Together they farmed for many years.  Alfred also worked for Green Thumb.  After retirement Alfred and Ellen moved to Eagle Bend.   Alfred’s interests include John Deere Tractors, going to the Casino, watching the Twins and visiting at Mel’s Café.  Alfred was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarissa and the Lions.

Alfred is survived by his wife Ellen of Eagle Bend, children:  Randy (Vicki) Meyer of Long Prairie, Ricky (Lynn) Meyer of Clarissa, Ronnie (Sue) Meyer of Browerville, Roger Meyer of Crest, California, sister-in-law, Thelma Sohl of George, Iowa, 13 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.

Alfred is preceded in death by his parents, Sister Anna Ossenfort, brothers:  Ernst, Arthur and Hubert.
