Veronica Kempe Warner, 100, of Staples, passed away on January 24, 2010 at the Staples Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Fr. Ronald Schmelzer officiating. Interment was held at St. Isidore's Catholic Cemetery in Moran Township, Todd County. Casket Bearers were her grandsons and great grandsons, Boyd Kempe, Todd Hansen, Bruce Zetah, Darek Kurpius, Lance Durbin and Jarrett Marstein.
Veronica was born September 30, 1909, in Staples to James & Mary (Adamietz) Sweeney. She grew up in Moran Township and LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
On September 30, 1930, Veronica was united in marriage to John Emil Kempe. They farmed in the Bertha area, later moving to Staples. John passed away November 4, 1967.
On November 18, 1972, Veronica was united in marriage to Martin Theodore Hove.
Veronica was a CNA for 25 years at the Mary Rondorf Home in Staples.
Veronica loved spending time with her family, gardening, reading, playing scrabble, and crocheting afghans. The last 20 years of her life she was blind. She spent 16 of those years with her daughter Bernie in Wisconsin and 4 of those years with her son John in Owatonna.
Veronica was a member of St. Isidore's Church Circle and Sacred Heart Church Circle.
Most recently she lived at the Care Center in Staples for 4 years.
Veronica is survived by her 7 daughters, Mary (Ray) Heaser of Bloomington, Rose Zetah of Motley, Bernie (George) Durbin of Waite Park, Virginia Reger of Staples, Dolores (Jerry) Kurpius of Winter Haven, Florida, Audrey (Bob) Goligowski of Brooklyn Park, Bonita (Delbert) Hansen of Staples, 31 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren and 4 brothers: Donald, Gerald, Dave and Cletus Sweeney.
Veronica is preceded in death by her husbands John Kempe and Martin Hove, by her son John, grandson Donnie Kurpius and sons in law Jerry Zetah and Kenny Reger, sister Mary Kowal and 4 brothers: Robert, James, John and Hugh Sweeney.
