Richard D. Sullivan Sr., 80, of Browerville, passed away on April 2, 2007 at the Veteran’s Hospital in St. Cloud. Funeral services for Richard were held on Friday, April 6, 2007, 11 a.m., at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Clarissa with Rev. Hollis Bishop officiating. Interment was at Zion Cemetery in Clarissa.
Richard was born on December 31, 1926 in Howard Lake, Minnesota to Samuel & Harriet (Driver) Sullivan. Richard was raised in Howard Lake and attended school through the 8th grade in Annandale. He then went to work on local farms. On November 30, 1950 Richard joined the Army and went to Korea. He was discharged on October 31, 1952. Upon returning to Howard Lake, Richard went to work driving truck for a sand and gravel company and also did work as a furniture mover. He was married on December 28, 1954 to Elizabeth Hellvig. In April 1961 Richard and his wife Elizabeth moved to a farm in rural Clarissa until 1973 then moved to a farm North of Browerville and retired in 1989. Richard loved to drive to town and visit, going to auctions and especially loved his family.
Richard is survived by his children: Mary (Albert) Collison of Staples, Larry (Chong) Sullivan of Hewitt, Richard Jr. (Lorie Johnson) of Hewitt, Samuel (Wendy) Sullivan of Browerville, Kenneth Sullivan of Bertha, Betty (Chuck Tornow) Klingaman of Staples, Harriet (Ed) St. John of Hinckly, Nancy (Russ) VanDenheuvel of Bertha, Lisa (Bruce) Meacham of Sebeka, Stacy (Mike) DeMars of Staples, brothers: John Sullivan of Brooten and Charles Sullivan of Clarissa, 34 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth, brothers: Samuel Eldon, Lawrence, Hank, sister Maggie, son Kenneth, daughter-in-law Sun and grandchild Sandra.
