
Margaret Johnson, 89, of Clarissa, passed away on February 13, 2008, at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital. Funeral services for Margaret were held on Saturday, February 16, 2008, 11:00 a.m., at the Communities of Faith Church in Clarissa with Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was held at Woodman Cemetery in Clarissa.
Margaret was born on May 8, 1918, in Riceville, Iowa, to Charles and Jennie (Holston) Bowers. When she was nine years old the family moved to Clarissa where they resided three miles Northwest of Clarissa. Margaret graduated from Clarissa High School in 1935 as the class valedictorian. She was united in marriage to Roland Johnson on September 11, 1938 in Clarissa.
Margaret was a graduate of the St. Cloud Teacher’s College and also received a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Chicago Music Conservatory in 1945. After teaching public school for 3 years, Margaret became a piano teacher and taught many lessons to children in her home. She began playing for the church at age 11 and was the organist for many years at the United Methodist Church in Clarissa. Margaret played the cello in the Long Prairie Chamber Orchestra, she was skilled at playing many different instruments and was a member in several dance bands. She enjoyed traveling, her Boston Bull Terriers and watching the Minnesota Twins on T.V. She was a member of the Minnesota Music Teacher’s Association and the Communities of Faith – United Methodist Church in Clarissa.
Margaret is survived by her niece JoAnne (Mrs. Cecil) Riggle of Florence, Oregon
